Dubai, UAE. An intergovernmental agreement on the abolition of the visa regime for citizens of Russia and the United Arab Emirates was signed during a meeting of the Russian-Emirate intergovernmental commission on trade, economic and technical cooperation, said Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov.

The meeting of the commission is held in Kazan under the chairmanship of Manturov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. A wide range of issues is being discussed, including cooperation in the field of trade, economic and investment cooperation, in the aviation and automobile industries, in non-ferrous metallurgy and energy.

"Today we witnessed the signing of an intergovernmental agreement on the abolition of the visa regime for citizens of Russia and the Emirates," Manturov said. Earlier during the meeting, he noted that a visa-free regime would create additional favorable conditions for the development of business mobility and increase the tourist flow between the two countries.

According to the Minister, last year the tourist flow from Russia to the UAE grew by more than 50%, exceeding 750 thousand people. According to expert estimates, their contribution to the economy of the Emirates exceeded US $ 2.3 billion. Manturov emphasized that, taking into account the removal of the visa barrier, Russia is counting on an increase in the oncoming tourist flow from the UAE.
