Transit passengers in UAE will not pass security check

Dubai airports are going to cancel the security check procedure for transit passengers.

Dubai, UAE. The UAE General Department of Civil Aviation received a proposal to cancel the security check for transit passengers - so they can go straight from the plane to duty-free shops and airport restaurants.

According to Colonel Humuma Al Ameri, Deputy Director General for Operations at the Dubai Airport Police General Department, passengers will undergo a preliminary security check at departure airports, the results of which will be reported to UAE airports.

He noted that the majority of passengers - from 70 to 75% - follow through the UAE in transit - and the new initiative will help them relax and enjoy shopping at the airport, rather than being nervous at the border control. The proposal is currently pending approval by the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority.

“Passengers spend quite a lot of time in line waiting for a security check to be completed, and then run to catch another flight. They can spend this time shopping in duty free or at the airport cafe,” Al Ameri said.

He specified that the initiative concerns only passengers arriving from countries with high safety standards.
