UAE struggling with emergency lane rides

Drivers blocking the movement of special vehicles in the United Arab Emirates will be fined 1,000 dirhams.

Abu Dhabi authorities issued a special warning for motorists, recalling responsibility for blocking the movement of special vehicles and driving in emergency lanes.

The Ministry of the Interior in July issued new amendments to the penalties for traffic violations, including an increase in the fine for driving in the emergency lane from 600 dirhams ($ 163) to 1000 dirhams ($ 272) and with six black marks. Violators are also seized cars for 30 days. Drivers blocking the movement of special vehicles will be fined 1,000 dirhams and will receive four black marks.

Abu Dhabi police launched several public awareness campaigns on the need to give way to ambulances and how to respond to first aid.

The position of the police is such that obstructing the movement of ambulances or other emergency vehicles is an uncivilized behavior. Police said that in 2016, 97 cases were recorded when drivers did not give way to emergency vehicles.
