Dubai Mall visitors will be delivered to the parking lot by unmanned vehicles

Autonomous vehicles will transport visitors to the largest shopping center in Dubai.

As part of initiatives to integrate unmanned driving technologies into the Dubai transportation system, the RTA will soon launch a test project to transport passengers between the Dubai Mall and the underground parking at Mohammad Bin Rashid Boulevard using an autonomous vehicle along a dedicated 550-meter corridor.

UAVs will move at intersections and interact with Dubai's smart traffic lights. The emirate is going to ensure unhindered movement of all modes of transport. Each drone will accommodate 6-7 passengers.

“We are leading the way in the use of artificial intelligence in the transport sector. We have an unmanned subway that has been operating for so many years. We also have an Scoot intelligent traffic light system that will interact with autonomous cars during the tests that we will conduct at the Mohammad Bin Rashid Boulevard "said Hussein Al-Banna, executive director of traffic at the RTA.

Speaking to the media at the first International Confederation of Road Federation Mena Congress, Al-Banna said that the RTA is working on several projects to transform Dubai into one of the smartest cities in the world.

"We are introducing an intelligent system that will establish the connection between a traffic light and an autonomous vehicle, this system will ultimately facilitate traffic and improve road safety," Al-Banna said.
